Our certified technicians will complete a site check to prepare for the installation of your new door. Once the doors have shipped to our warehouse, we will transport your new door in our enclosed vans to avoid exposure to the elements which can rust the steel. Door sections are carried flat in our vans to avoid delamination and scratches. You can expect our technicians to make sure your garage door is installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions. After installation, our technicians will wipe down the surface of the door to clean and inspect the door once more for any minor defects or damage.

Installation and Repair

The installation of a new garage door usually takes about four to six hours, depending on the type and size of the door. The process includes an initial inspection, measurements, and any necessary custom work

Some signs that your garage door needs repair include weird grating and squeaking sounds, trouble opening and closing, corroded or broken springs, sensor issues, broken remote, higher energy bills, air leaks, and rust or peeling paint on the hardware.

Yes, Waterloo Garage Doors offers 24/7 emergency repair services to ensure that your garage door issues are resolved fast, regardless of the time of day.

3½” is required on each side for all residential models.

After the door is installed, a double fin weather seal is installed onto the framed opening which effectively provides a weather seal.

We don’t recommend installing an overhead door onto the building framing or “studs.” If the door is installed without the benefit of additional framing over the studs, the lag screws may drill in between the studs, rather than into solid wood. This is not adequate, and the track may eventually loosen, causing alignment and other problems. Tracks should be mounted to 2×6 or at least 2×4.

Installation costs depend on the intricacy of the project, the headroom, on whether there will be an electric motor or not, as well as other aspects particular to each project. In other words, there are many variables to consider. We recommend that you visit our showroom or call the office to have one of our technicians come out to your house to measure for accurate pricing.

Products & Brands, and other questions

Waterloo Garage Doors provides a wide range of garage door brands such as Clopay, Genie, LiftMaster, Hormann, Micanan, Manaras, Doorlec.

We also service Zap, Lynx, MasterCraft, Linear, Wayne Dalton, Stanley, Ryobi, Chamberlain, Craftsmen, Marancec, SkyLink, Guardian, and Sommer Garage doors and openers.

Yes, many garage door openers have a manual release feature that lets you open the door manually if the power goes out or other problems occur. You should never force the door open if it has a broken part.

Even if your garage is not insulated, an insulated door is more durable due to the insulation, it is able to withstand light bumps or a garden tool dropping against it. Non insulated doors resonate sound when in operation, making them much louder than an insulated door.  An insulated door overall is stronger and will last longer.

A 1/2 HP motor is adequate for all residential doors up to 18′ wide. Keep in mind that an electric garage door opener is only meant to set the door in motion, while the springs lift and close the door. Therefore, the door must be well-balanced at all times in order to maintain its dead weight.

Not quite.

Polyurethane features superior thermal insulation with a factor of RSI ranging from R13 to R-18. In addition, polyurethane adheres better to door surfaces and expands to the interior of the door. This allows for better bonding to the steel and reinforces the strength and integrity of the section.

Polystyrene is also the material used to make coffee cups. This foam is set in place behind the exterior steel, offering some insulation.

Our steel insulated doors operate quietly, firstly, due to the sound dampening effects of the superior insulation, and secondly, because we utilize our exclusive whisper quiet nylon rollers for all our residential door models. Nylon rollers glide smoothly and quietly as they carry the door into the overhead position.

With proper maintenance, a garage door can last up to 20 years. Regular preventative maintenance and prompt repairs of any issues are essential to extend the lifespan of your garage door

Maintenance for Garage Doors

It often happens that the garage is below a room (bedroom or other) where the noise caused by the door may cause a problem.

What to do then? Change the steel rollers to nylon rollers and choose an opener with a belt drive instead of a chain drive. Have a professional technician check whether the tracks and opener are properly installed. Finally we advise you to do regular lubrication of the rollers and the tracks.

Absolutely, yes! The likelihood that the second will break sooner than later is high, and doing both at the same time means you will not have to fix it twice!

Washing your door is relatively easy – follow these steps to have it looking squeaky clean!

  • Grab cleaning supplies: You’ll want clean cloths or wash mitts, gentle soap, a bucket of soapy water, a microfibre mop, and a silicone-based lubricant for weather stripping)
  • Pre-rinse your door: Using your microfibre mop, remove any debris off the surface of the door. Afterwards, rinse the entire door using a hose on a gentle mode.
  • Soap it down: Using your soapy water and wash mitt, you can begin lightly scrubbing the door from top to bottom. Ensure that you are also checking the weather stripping during this process.
  • Rinse and dry: Turn  your hose on to a gentle level and begin to rinse your garage door down. Grab a clean and dry cloth to dry your door.
  • Wax your door (optional): Apply your wax from the top of the door down to the bottom. Complete this step in rows until the surface area is covered.

You’re all set!

Regular maintenance includes lubricating the rollers and tracks, checking the balance of the door, inspecting the springs and cables, and ensuring that the sensors are functioning correctly. Annual preventative maintenance is recommended
