FAQs

Wouldn't a steel door be noisy as it opens and closes?

Our steel insulated doors operate quietly, firstly, due to the sound dampening effects of the superior insulation, and secondly, because we utilize our exclusive whisper quiet nylon rollers for all our residential door models. Nylon rollers glide smoothly and quietly as they carry the door into the overhead position.

How much room do I need on each side of the opening to install a sectional garage door?

4½" is required on each side for all residential models.

If the framed opening is the same size as the door, how does the door seal to the opening?

After the door is installed, a double fin weather seal is installed onto the framed opening which effectively provides a weather seal.

Can I install the door directly onto the building framing (studs)?

We don’t recommend installing an overhead door onto the building framing or “studs.” If the door is installed without the benefit of additional framing over the studs, the lag screws, may drill in between the studs, rather than into solid wood. This is not adequate, and the track may eventually loosen causing alignment and other problems.

Why Buy An Insulated Door When My Garage Is Not Insulated?

Even if your garage is not insulated, an insulated door is more durable due to the insulation, it is able to withstand light bumps or a garden tool dropping against it. Non insulated doors resonate sound when in operation, making them much louder than an insulated door.  An insulated door overall is stronger and will last longer.

What Should I Know When I Come To The Showroom?

In order to be able to accurately assist you when you visit our showroom, we need you to provide the following information:

  • The width of the garage opening.
  • The height of the garage opening.
  • The measurement from the floor to the underside of the ceiling or the lowest obstruction.
  • The existing door type (one piece tilt or sectional, wood or steel)

How much does the installation of a garage door cost?

Installation costs depend on the intricacy of the project, the headroom, on whether there will be an electric motor or not, as well as other aspects particular to each project. In other words, there are many variables to consider. We recommend that you visit our showroom or call the office to have one of our technicians come out to your house to measure for accurate pricing.

How much horsepower does the motor need?

1/2 HP motor is adequate for all residential doors up to 18' wide. Keep in mind that an electric garage door opener is only meant to work as a substitute for human strength. Therefore, the door must be well-balanced at all times in order to maintain its dead weight.

What can I do to reduce the noise of my garage door while opening or closing?

It often happens that the garage is below a room (Bedroom or other) where the noise caused by the door may cause a problem.

What to do then? Change the steel rollers to nylon rollers, choose an opener with a belt drive instead of a chain drive. If you already have an opener with a chain drive, you can get a mounting isolator kit. Finally we advise you to do regular lubrication of the rollers and the tracks.

Are polyurethane and white Styrofoam one and the same?

Not quite. Polyurethane features superior thermal insulation with a factor of RSI: 2.8 (R:16). In addition, since polyurethane adheres better to door surfaces, it provides twice as much resistance to flexion as polystyrene (Styrofoam) in a comparable door. Entrance doors are also insulated with polyurethane foam. Polystyrene is the material used to make coffee cups.
